I had heard good things about this place, so we decided to try it before seeing a movie. Let me say from the beginning – I think it is weird! Firstly, they have communal tables – long tables with benches on either side, so you can share your meal with complete strangers! Secondly, I was firmly told that I couldn’t place my handbag on the seat next to me, rather I was to place it on the rack under the table – this didn’t strike me as a good idea since the rack was not directly in front of me, rather it started directly in front of the seat next to me. Thirdly, I don’t think that anyone who served us was over 17 – not that this really bothered me, but it was just one more little thing! They did this ‘very trendy’ thing where they wrote a receipt number (or something) on your place mat as well as the menu number of the dishes/drinks that you ordered – I guess so that they don’t have to talk to you when they bring out your food/drink – sadly it didn’t work that way, so instead of being ‘very trendy’ it turned out to be ‘very silly’! The food was ok – nothing spectacular. Martin had the yasai cha han – like a fried rice with miso soup and pickles and I had the yasai yaki soba without the bean sprouts – basically stir fried noodles. We also had the yasai gyoza (veggie dumplings). Luckily there was some sauce left from those that I poured over my noodles, because they were a little boring! The dumplings were ok, but not great – which pretty much sums up the whole experience! I certainly wouldn’t bother again…
