Edgars Inn

This is a great little pub at Ainslie shops. It has a really nice location and it is a nice place for a beer on a sunny afternoon – which is what we had with our lunch during this visit. I have been here a few times for drinks but have only eaten a meal here twice, and both times have had the same thing – vegetarian nachos (for 2!). There isn’t a huge veggie range – which I guess is to be expected from a pub, but it is a little disappointing considering the location! The food is pretty good though, and my meat eating companion was impressed by his steak sandwich! So, if you are in the mood for a beer in the sun and some nachos or a focaccia, then this is your place!

Zen Yai

This was the second time we have been here… and really we only went here because it was close to home and actually open on a public holiday… although more on that later! The veggie range is pretty good as I have mentioned before, but the food was not as good as I remembered. It was in fact a little ordinary, certainly not going to be my new favourite Thai restaurant as I mentioned it might become previously. After we paid and were walking to the car I commented to Martin that I hoped he hadn’t tipped them too much considering the somewhat large public holiday surcharge they had added to the bill – $4 each. But hey, they gave us one nice set of chopsticks – not sure they are worth $8 though!

Café Charissma

This is a great place! I have to say, they make the best garlic bread that I have had in a long time! This place was suggested by a friend for lunch and it is a great find! I didn’t realise that there were restaurants at this little set of shops in North Lyneham! They have a great selection of veggie meals and the servings are more than generous! I ordered pasta and it was huge! My friend ordered a Greek salad and it was the biggest Greek salad I have ever seen! And it tasted good! I am going to head back here very soon to try it again. They also sell packets of homemade biscuits which were a big hit with Martin when I brought them home as a present for him!

Thai Cornar

Dropped in here for yet another quick meal after a movie, and this time, it was literally QUICK! We were in and out within 35-40 minutes… but the food was pretty good, and there is a good selection of veggie options… Curry puffs for our entrée were great because there were NO peas, so I didn’t have to sift through the hot filling and pull them out. We had a veggie massaman curry and a tofu stir fry for the main. The curry was a bit odd as it had a variety of beans (kidney beans etc) in it, as well as pumpkin and nowhere near as much potato as I would have liked (but I am a potato head!). The stir fry was good, but had large chunks of tofu which were hard to eat and the flavours were just a little subtle for my tastes… I am sure chilli was mentioned in the description, and I think I saw some, but couldn’t really taste it… However the food was pretty good, it is just sad (for them) that they are right next door to Kopi Tiem which, unless I was particularly in the mood for Thai food, I would rather go to.

Pizzaz

This is a cute little place on a corner in Kingston – we tried to have breakfast here one day, but they were full, so in our efforts to find somewhere new to eat after a haircut, we tried it for lunch. Which ends up being rather funny, because we both ordered breakfast since it was still available. The other reason for this is that there is not a huge vegetarian choice on the lunch menu, even if you ask them to do the dish without meat. However, I think the breakfast is great… I had scrambled eggs layered with hash browns and cheese, without the ham – and it was fantastic. The hash browns were fresh (not the icky frozen ones) and the rocket on top was perfect! Martin had fried eggs and fruit salad and he thought it was ok, but he didn’t think we would go back in a hurry… If I was going to Kingston for breakfast and there was a spare table, then I would eat there, but otherwise, I think I have to agree with him.

TurkOz

We eat from here a lot… mainly take away, we don’t eat in often… the pides (Turkish pizzas) are great. They have plenty of veggie options, I think all the entrée’s are veggie and there are a number of veggie pides. The dips and salady starter things are also vegetarian and are pretty good. I love the baba ganoush from here (an amazing thing considering I don’t really like eggplant), but I have to say the houmus is not one of my favourites, it has a funny taste to it. I really like the zucchini balls but they are deep fried, so we don’t have them very often. This time we were with friends so went for a banquet option which is easy when you don’t really want to have to pick things – conversation with friends is more fun than choosing what to eat sometimes! Beware, the banquets are huge, we only had the small one, but there was far too much food! The great thing was that, even though the banquets are meat based, they were happy to do 2 veggie banquets and 2 meat banquets and they came on separate plates so we didn’t have to worry about it being all mixed up…
