People

  • My wonderful wife Mel.
  • Our gorgeous dog Thali, who is no longer with us.

Work

  • I have strong Linux skills in system administration, network administration, scripting, software design, education, technical support.
  • I work in Canberra for OzLabs, part of IBM's global Linux Technology Center and also part of IBM's Australia Development Laboratory.
  • I used to work as a Big Cool Guy.

Computing interests

  • My day-to-day work revolves around the Linux operating system. I'm interested in networking, security, web stuff... I've got some simple Linux hacks.
  • I use Emacs a lot, and I've worked on some Emacs lisp hacks.
  • I've published a few things - some are Linux-related, some are related to the research below.
  • I've spent some time doing research on formal software construction techniques that promote design reuse.

Music

  • I play guitar and sing. Sometimes I play harmonica. Occasionally I hack around on piano. I write songs and have recorded a few demos.
  • I'm a member of The Taken.
  • I review albums in my music collection. I'm also hoping to go back and review some of the more memorable concerts I've been to.
  • My frustration with MIDI sequencing packages has led to this idea for a MIDI sequencer. However, since I now play in a band it hasn't been used or worked on by me in a long time.
