This little penguin is an absolute original, and was made for us at our request by a glassblower in a market in Hawaii. We were on our way to dinner and saw a guy with a glass blowing stall and looked for a penguin amongst the collection of animals he had for sale. He didn’t have one and when we asked if he could make one for us, he accepted our challenge! We even got to pick the colours we wanted. It was very cool to see the birth of this penguin…
More pics of the creation here.

This little guy is jade and comes from New Zealand. We bought it from a jewellers in Te Anau. We deliberated over this purchase quite a bit. There were two different sizes (this one and a larger one) and they were not cheap! But a collection is a collection and as you will realise – we are dedicated to ours!

These are some of my favourites of the collection. They were a gift from the lovely Lucy, and I think she got them in Texas. They are little things that hang off lights that you pull to turn the light on and off. I’m a little bit sad that we don’t have any lights that they could attach to!

This was the penguin that started it all. It was the centrepiece (& inspiration for) of a box full of penguins given to Martin for his birthday. The reason for a box full of penguins – he was working for a Linux company and the Linux logo is Tux, a penguin. Since then the collection has just gotten bigger, and here we are – doing a penguin a day!

We have lots of penguins and it is difficult to remember what’s what. So, we’ll try to describe a penguin-a-day here…
